January 2018

Dear Parents and Friends of GF/JWL,

We have big plans for 2018! The PTO is organizing Imagine That Day on March 29, which will focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) activities and career opportunities. The school has also registered to participate in Invention Convention. Students in grades 4-6 who choose to participate will share their inventions in March. Our annual science fair will be held later in the spring. All of these events are directly related to our school goal of helping students become more innovative in their thinking.

January is a busy month in terms of assessment. Students will be taking the second administration of the NWEA MAP. This is an adaptive computer-based assessment we use to measure reading and math skills. These results will be used to help teachers select appropriate teaching materials and target specific skills in need of further development.

First grade students will host the January All School Meeting which will be held on Friday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. The focus will be on the innovator’s characteristic of being empathetic.

Starting January 5 and running through January 31, please remember to vote daily at to help us win the Project Fit America Grant. Voting guidelines are found in the January school newsletter.

Happy New Year!

Anne Hogsten
