December 2017

Dear Parents and Friends of GF/JWL,

We do not need to consult the calendar to know that winter is knocking at our door. The morning air is chilly, and a few snowflakes have already fallen. As we prepare for the holidays and an exciting and extremely busy month, I hope you will take time to enjoy some small, simple pleasures. Read a book, catch snowflakes on your tongue, build a snowman, and make a favorite holiday recipe with your child. Seeing the world through the eyes of a child is truly magical! The gift of time is priceless.

Here are a few highlights for this month:

12/4-12/8- Scholastic Book Fair in GFS gym

12/4- Connecticut College students present science fair projects - Grade 5 in JWL gym

12/7- Poinsettias fundraiser pick up in GFS lobby, 3:30-6:00

12/8-Chili Cook-Off and Frosty’s Workshop in GFS gym/library, 6:00-8:00

12/8- All School Meeting, 2:00

12/15- Shortened Session, PD

12/21- PTO meeting in GFS library, 3:30-4:30

12/22- Spirit Day - Wear your holiday attire!

12/22- LHS Carolers and our Jr. Carolers, 2:10 in GFS gym

Kindergarteners will host the December All School Meeting on Friday, December 8 at 2:00. They will share lessons they have learned based on the book Cookies, Bite-Size Life Lessons by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. Be on the lookout for Kindness Cookies in the GFS hallway!

On behalf of the staff at Gales Ferry/Juliet W. Long School, I would like to wish everyone a joyous holiday season. Winter break will begin on December 23. School will resume on Wednesday, January 3.
